5th Class Sports Day

5th Classes were invited to take part in a Sports Day in Portlaoise College on Wednesday, 24th May.   Here, the college staff and the Transition Year students had planned a wonderful day for the children.

The day began with the children arriving in the gym to be divided into their class groups and assigned their Transition Year Coaches.  Each group came up with a team name, team motto, team flag and chose a team captain.

The four captains were Davin (Mrs Conlan’s), Evisa (Mr Coughlan’s), Samantha (Mr O’Lionaird’s) and Mary (Ms McCarthy’s).

The activities of the day included the long jump, javelin, discus, 60 metre race, hammer and wacky races.

After all the fun on the college grounds, the children returned to the gym and the awards ceremony took place.  There were prizes for the winners of each olympic sport, team names, mottos, captains and overall team prize.

Scoil Bhríde would most sincerely like to thank the staff and pupils of Portlaoise College for their organisation and execution of a wonderful day from start to finish…..the children even got ice-creams after the college’s PE teacher, Mr Hally, sneaked out of the school to go to the shop!  With the sun shining and everyone tired and happy, these were a welcome treat to cool down as the children made their way back to Scoil Bhríde!

Here are some snaps from the day (more to follow)
