Silver Medalists!

On Wednesday June 13th the 6th class boys’ Rounders team travelled to Emo to compete in the boys Rounders blitz for a highly coveted place in the finals.

The team played 4 matches against Raheen, Killeen, Mountrath and Durrow. The boys were fantastic on the day and won every match. Their teamwork, focus and determination was evident throughout each match and the key to their success. Excellent catchers, bowlers and hitters helped also!

A week later the boys travelled to Emo again, for the finals day. They had trained hard in the run up to the day and were excited and hopeful.

The boys were up against the Heath in the semi-final and they knew this was going to be a tough 3 innings match against a very experienced team. They needed serious focus and concentration in order to have any chance of winning. The boys won the toss and opted to field first. They communicated really well during the whole match and constantly cheered each other on, advised each other and were a pleasure to watch. Excellent catches from Jake Lawless and Cian Cleary were vital during the game along with quick bowling, clever fielding and strong hits throughout.

In our last batting innings the teams were level at 14 home runs apiece. One last big hit from Larry Connors brought David Madu home safely to an eruption of cheers from his team mates!

A massive achievement from the boys to bring Scoil Bhríde Boys’ Rounders team into their first ever Rounders ‘A’ championship final!

In the final, the boys put in another stellar performance against Emo and were quick to get the opposition out each inning. Unfortunately, luck was not on our side in this game and although we made some brilliant catches and had excellent hits, Emo did also!

We were beaten by a great team in the final but the boys did the school proud. Their skill and talent was commented on so many times throughout the day and winning a silver medal for the first time ever is a brilliant result for the day!

A massive thank you to the families who came to support on the day.
