Homework – 1st Class

We have explained to the children today how to do their homework, every night they start a new page and write the date at the top of the page.

The children must use the LOOK, SAY, COVER, WRITE, CHECK method when doing their spellings. They have 3 sentences a week. This week they are on week one.

On Monday they will write out 1(a) three times e.g.

(a)  My name is _______ ________ .

(b)  My name is _______ ________ .

(c)  My name is _______ ________ .

Tuesday they will write out 1(b) three times

(a)Teacher calls my name.

(b) Teacher calls my name.

(c) Teacher calls my name.

Wednesday they will write out 1(c) three times

(a)Teacher has books.

(b) Teacher has books.

(c) Teacher has books.

Thursday they will write 2(a,b,c) e.g.

(a)  My name is _______ ________.

(b)  Teacher calls my name.

(c)  Teacher has books.

On Friday they will be doing a test on those sentences, so it is very important that they learn their spellings and don’t just write them out.

The following week they will move on to Week 2 and so on. It will be marked in their homework journal what week they are on.

Every Monday they will be given tables to write and learn for the whole week and these will be tested every Friday.

They will write out these tables every night, again it is important that they learn them for their test on Friday.

Tables can be found in their Homework Journals on pg.63-66.

Three nights a week (typically Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) they will have some reading. Reading pages will be written into homework journals or on a sheet inside the cover of their reading book.

We would like somebody at home to help them with their homework and to check it after it is done. When you are happy that the homework is complete please sign the journal.

Tricky Words

Later in the year they will get Tricky Words to put into sentences, this will be explained to them then.

If you have any questions about the homework or if there are any problems please don’t hesitate to make an appointment.

Thanking you for your continued support and co-operation.
