EA Sports 5-a-Side
The EA Sports Primary Schools 5 aside competition is one of the biggest competitions in primary schools soccer. The programme involves 914 schools with over 15,000 children taking part each year.
Each year, Scoil Bhride send a boys and a girls team to the competitions. Competitions begin in March with a competition in Portloaoise, to find the winner for Co. Laois. Winners progress to the Mid Leinster Finals and then if they are successive, a chance in the Leinster finals and finally the All Ireland Finals.
Over the last couple of years, both the girls and boys team representing the 6th Class of Scoil Bhride, have worked very hard with tough training sessions in March and April. Last year in particular was a good year for the teams. The boys were in a tough group with a few of the big all boys schools in the area and came second in the group. Unfortunately only the winners qualify for the next stage.
However, the girls did extremely well. They produced some great football and some interesting results, finally taking the top position of the group in the Laois Finals. They qualified for the Mid-Leinster Finals where they did themselves proud. There was some tough competition as you’d expect at this stage and our girls were unlucky to not qualify for the Leinster Finals.
The Girls 2013 team that qualified for the Mid-Leinster Finals!
So when March comes around again next year, we are sure that both the boys and girls teams will make everyone proud in Scoil Bhride and try their best in the competitions in 2014!
