Fun in the bog at Causey Farm!
On Monday 26th May, fourth class went on their much anticipated school tour to Causey Farm in Navan, County Meath. We were all extremely excited about the day that lay ahead and what a tour we had!
After changing into our old clothes, we went and visited lots of the animals on the farm and helped to feed them. We spent time playing with giant bubbles, and tried to find our way around the maze in the barn! We listened to a farmer tell us all about where turf comes from, and how it is made. He cut some turf for each group and we all got to feel what turf was like after it was dug from the ground.
The highlight of the day had to be bog jumping. We sat on bales of straw in the back of a truck as the tractor drove us to the bog hole. It was great fun all squashed together in the truck as we sang lots of songs along the way. When we arrived at the bog hole, we took off our shoes and socks. We then spent over half an hour crawling, jumping, twisting, falling and lying around in the mud! Apparently it was ‘good for our skin!’ Some of us got stuck in certain places and had to rely on our friends to give us a helping hand back up to the bank! Everyone got stuck in, and was extremely brave.
We were a pretty sight as we trudged back to the truck – everybody head to toe in muck! We were glad to change into clean clothes and have lunch before we went home.
It was definitely a tour to remember and everyone had a fantastic time!
