Intercultural Day June 7th 2013 Scoil Bhríde

The children and all the staff of Scoil Bhríde have been busy preparing for this year’s Intercultural Celebrations. We are conscious that we have children from many different backgrounds, countries and religions but to us they are all part of our happy and vibrant school family. Intercultural Day allows us the opportunity to learn more about the children’s own cultures and traditions and to welcome parents into the school. It also provides a break from the usual classroom work, allowing the children to be more creative.

Some of the activities taking place this year include…. All the children of the school are learning our theme song “Hello to all the Children of the World”, which we will perform on Friday. The sixth class children will lead out our flag parade.

Infants are putting on a mini concert to entertain the other children. Parents are visiting to tell stories, teach a Latvian dance and discuss traditional food and clothes. Art,music and games will all take place on the day.

First and Second classes have been working on projects and displays for their prefab. Children are making presentations to the rest of the classes about their countries and are completing activities in art, music and science as part of this year’s work. The children also get to taste some exotic foods from around the world. As a special treat these classes had a visit from the Julie Rose McCormick puppet theatre which they really enjoyed

Third and fourth classes have prepared impressive projects which they are presenting to their classmates. A group are putting on a fashion show to highlight their traditional dress. Parents are visiting to tell stories in fourth class.

Fifth and Sixth classes have prepared some interesting fact files and art displays. A group are learning a fun Nigerian party game. Food tasting, dance and clothing from a variety of countries will be enjoyed on the day. PowerPoint’s and IT projects have been worked on and shared with the other classes. We were thrilled to have drumming workshops for 3rd, 4th & 5th classes with Eddie O’Neill this year, which were excellent. We have great talent among our students and he was very impressed with our rhythm!

We hope you get to call in and visit during our celebrations.

Regards C. Troy
