Dave Rudden’s Suspiciously Heart Stopping Visit To Portlaoise Library
Written by Ben Campbell
Dave Rudden is a very popular new author who has revolutionised this generations perspective on what a book can actually be. His first book was released this year titled: “Knights Of The Borrowed Dark”. It follows a young man named Denizen as he learns more about his family and a whole lot of things about himself along the way. The Author Dave Rudden came to our library on November 12th to sign books and give a little “Writing Wisdom” for all of the young aspiring authors. The lucky classes in our school who got to meet the amazing man were Mr. McEvoy’s 6th Class and Ms. Doheny’s 6th Class. They walked down from the school to the library, took their seats, and waited for Mr. Rudden to arrive and speak. Once Dave arrived, he opened up a Powerpoint and gave writing tips and spoke in the most hilarious and kind way possible. He told us, the children , stories of how his cover came to light and how his book was written TWO YEARS before it was released. He also read two traumatising chapters from his spine chilling book, but the most memorable part was when he told us how he encountered the inspiration for his villian. I will now tell you a little bit of the story that he told us:
“I was walking to the shop to get some crisps because I just love crisps, but I have to walk through the park to get to the nearest shop. So I was walking through the park when I seen this man in the distance and he was hunched over and he craned his next words to me and said “YOU COME HERE” so I walked over to him and he said “ME AND A COUPLE Of LADS ARE STARTIN A GROUP AND WE ARE SAVIN PEOPLE IN SECRET WHATS THE WORD FOR DAT?” So Then I Said “L-L-LI-Like a vigilante?” So then he said “YES YES THATS IT, I KNEW YOU WERE SMART!” So then I just couldn’t help myself about what happened next so I said “Ya mean like batman?!” Then he just stared me down until I just walked away.
So as you can see, EXTREMELY INTERESTING MAN. He took questions for about ten minutes and he then started to sign copies of his books. So after he signed copies of his book all of the sixth class students took a few minutes to read for a little bit until eventually leaving the library and heading back to school to read some more. To summarise the whole day, it was a very fun experience for all of us (especially us book worms) and a very helpful experience for all of our aspiring writers!
