Our Olympic Hero’s Visit Scoil Bhride!
On Friday September 3rd, Scoil Bhríde warmly welcomed 3 of Ireland’s history making Olympians, Eimear Lambe, Aifric Keogh and Emily Hegarty. These 3 individuals made history as they were Ireland’s first ever women’s rowing crew to get a medal at an Olympic Games. Unfortunately the 4th member of the crew, Fiona Murtagh, was unable to join us on the day. We were all so lucky for Eimear, Aifric and Emily to take time out of their jam packed schedules to come to our school and visit us, especially when the crew had to be on the Late Late Show that evening!
It was a truly insightful and inspiring morning for the children from 5th and 6th class (and their teachers) as they gathered out in the yard to hear the story of how this rowing crew qualified for their Olympic Games in Tokyo, making it into the Olympics on their final qualification attempt only months before the games were set to take place. The message of the morning was simple: always follow your dreams, no matter how hard the road ahead may look and never leave yourself asking “I wonder what would have happened if I had followed that path instead”.
The children got to ask so many questions and see the thoughts and dedication of what it takes to become an Olympian. Who knows? Could a future Olympian be amongst the children in 5th and 6th class? Time will tell!!
