We remember Ned Ryan fondly in Scoil Bhride N.S. Though his time here with us was short, he made an indelible impression on so many. The pupils in his class adored him. He was so kind and caring to them. They all remember the sweets he brought in at Christmas and then at Easter his Mam brought in a big Easter egg for every pupil. His big broad smile brought happiness and light to Scoil Bhride. He was an out and out warrior. Life dealt him a difficult hand. He didn’t complain, give out or wallow in self-pity. He got on with it and was always cheerful and positive. He adopted the mantra of the great Latin poet Horace “Dum Spiro Spero” which means there is always hope. Unfortunately this hope was extinguished last Wednesday, however his memory and legacy lives on forever.
