Spinning and Weaving – 6th Class
We had a lovely visit from Geraldine O’Sullivan on Tuesday. She taught us about gathering wool, spinning it into thread and using that thread to weave. She gave a fascinating overview of the history of spinning and weaving in Ireland, from the earliest farmers right up to modern times, including interesting insights into the customs and superstitions surrounding spinning. The children had the opportunity to try carding themselves, creating their own wristbands which they really enjoyed.
