LET’S TALK MENTAL WELLNESS
Written by Ashling Fleming
On the 19th of Oct, a nurse from the St.Patrick’s Mental Hospital in Dublin called Imelda McHugh came to Scoil Bhríde to give us a talk called “LET’S TALK MENTAL WELLNESS”. The talk was about what mental health is and how to resolve mental health issues. Imelda was a very helpful woman and gave us ten fantastic tips on what things people are suffering from these days and where to go if you think you are suffering from mental health issues.
Imelda told us that 1 in 5 people are suffering from mental health issues so we knew if we were suffering we weren’t the only ones. She asked a lot of questions for us to answer but it wasn’t like a test because there were no wrong answers. There were lots of different answers from the children in 6th class and they shared with everyone how they calmed themselves down when they are angry and sad.
We hope in the future Imelda will come back and give us many more tips on our mental health.
Here’s a few quotes from 6th class children of what they remembered from the talk…..
[Aaron] “A problem shared is a problem halved”
[Lee] “Put down the technology and take up a sport”
[Lee] “Keep your mind active”
[Damien] “Don’t be afraid to talk to someone”
[Tatiana] “Don’t get frustrated about little things”
[Aishat] “Move on, be free”
